What is National History Day?
"It's not just a day; it's an experience!"
National History Day (www.nhd.org) is an annual academic competition that begins on a regional level in March, advances to a state level in May, and culminates in a week-long event in June at the University of Maryland. It is an exciting opportunity for students to utilize writing and critical thinking skills and undertake thorough, detailed research on a topic of their choice within the guidelines of the annual theme. Lawrence Middle School has participated in this event since 2013 and has successfully sent students to the national level of competition every year. 2017-2018 brings a brand-new theme, "Conflict and Compromise in History." Students choose a topic to research and present as either: a paper, a website, an exhibit, a documentary, or as a performance. Students have the opportunity to work individually or in groups of 2-5.
